Entrepreneurs should be given encouragement by the locals
HERE we go again, as soon as someone wants to drag this so-called holiday resort into the 21st century up comes the old cry 'we don't want it, it will spoil our neighbourhood'.
I refer of course to cafe owner Adam Nunn who wishes to update his Red Rock cafe into something that will attract more customers and visitors to Goodrington. This is what this area is crying out for, somewhere for families to have a drink, whether it be for a beer or a cup of tea.

One of the objectors, I note, states that it will affect the tranquil atmosphere of the area. For goodness sake you live right near the beach in a place where holidaymakers congregate. If you don't like the hustle and bustle of people on holiday wanting a good time then why choose to live were you are.
I also note that people are concerned it will generate a lot more traffic... well isn't that what a holiday resort should be all about? More traffic equals more visitors equals more income for the resort.
I am sick and tired of hearing about those people who object to everything that will only enhance the area of Torbay. They object to the Torwood Street development — buildings too high, too large, wrong shape etc — and they don't want a play park in Paignton. Why? The Green is only used a couple of times a year. Already now these sad people are objecting to any development around the arena.
I just hope these people don't win over the fish restaurant in Babbacombe. A place like that is what this area needs.
Don't these people in Torbay who object to everything that will help put this area on the holiday map realise that people come on holiday and expect more than a beach where all they need is a bucket and spade like their grandparents used to expect.
Maybe these sad people who want Torbay to go the same way as Margate and other seaside towns that failed to move with the times should all be living in residential towns and not a holiday town.
Finally to those persons who are trying to move this town into the 21st century, good luck and here's hoping that one day your visions and investments will come to fruition.

“I agree! What is wrong with the people of torbay, we should welcome change to our resort.”

“How refreshing to have a letter in favour of change.
If more of us had this attitude then maybe Torbay would once again become a busy holiday resort and not continue to crumble into extingtion.
I fully support the views voiced in this letter, well done Les Edwards.
