FINAL SCORE: Buckland Athletic 3-0 Torquay United
TORQUAY can have no complaints about being dumped out of the Devon St Luke's Bowl at the quarter-final stage tonight.
Their Peninsula League opponents were great value for their three-goal victory and had the beating of what was very much a Gulls reserve side in almost every department.
Buckland defended well and played a quick, crisp passing game which saw them create a string of chances.
Torquay often looked uncertain at the back, and at the other end rarely tested home keeper Neil Montandon.
Of even more concern for Torquay will be the sending-off of full back Lathaniel Rowe-Turner after a second half flare-up.
Red cards in a Devon Bowl game have repercussions in the league, and Rowe-Turner will face a suspension.
Torquay were businesslike from the start. Lloyd Macklin ran at the home defence and Nathan Craig showed some good touches.
But Buckland held firm and gradually took control.
Gavin Hammon put them ahead in the 34th minute with a crisp finish after a good pass from Liam Moseley, and they reached half-time without looking troubled.
Two minutes after the break they doubled their lead when Danny Glaze hung up an inviting cross from the left and Buckland player-manager Anthony Lynch headed home unmarked at the far post.
Just as the second goal looked to injected some life into the visitors, Buckland put the game beyond their reach, Dean Stevens cutting in from the left and lashing a shot past Gulls keeper Martin Rice.
Rowe-Turner's dismissal followed an ugly moment in the centre of the pitch as tempers threatened to boil over, but Buckland saw out the remaining half-hour to win with ease and set up a meeting with either Exeter City or Cullompton United in the semi-final.

“Pete, Your beloved team LOST!! No shocker really. They can only beat teams that consist of local pub louts. Any other team with real talent wipe the floor with Torquay as shown above.”
