A SOUTH Devon family who lost loved ones to cancer have signed up for Rowcroft Hospice's Walk To Remember on Sunday, October 7.

They are taking part in the event at Lupton House in memory of sisters Jackie and Tessa.

They both battled breast cancer, and received care and support from Rowcroft Hospice.

Jackie's illness was prolonged, but gave her the opportunity to come to terms with her prognosis and even raise money for the Hospice, while Tessa was taken much more suddenly.

The sister left behind eight children between them, plus a mother, brother, sister and young grandchildren.

Family member Muriel Powe said: "I cannot thank everyone at Rowcroft enough for the compassion, comfort, dignity and professionalism which they all showed in caring for my daughters Jackie and Tessa in their time of need.

"Thank you doesn't seem to be enough, but I am truly grateful for all their help."

This new sponsored walk event provides families across South Devon and beyond the chance to gather all generations and enjoy time together.

The event, named A Walk to Remember, is welcoming all families whether or not they have been touched by Rowcroft Hospice's care.

The gentle two-mile walk through the grounds of Lupton House, near Brixham, is open to everyone. Dogs are welcome.

The mixed terrain route takes in some special and hidden views of South Devon not usually accessible to the public.

Laura Carus, Rowcroft's Walk to Remember co-ordinator, said: "The walk is raising vital funds for Rowcroft Hospice to help the hospice run services throughout the 300 square miles of South Devon.

"The more people who take part, and the more money will be raised, the bigger difference we will be made to local people's lives.

"The walk will also raise awareness of the work of local charity Children and Families in Grief and the support it offers families."
