FILM fans in Totnes will get the chance to see an award-winning Iranian film on September 28 after it was suggested by a fellow movie-goer.

Audiences at Follaton Community Cinema vote for the films they want to see and are also encouraged to suggest movies for the shortlist.

A Separation was suggested by Dartington film fan Sheila Isherwood and after the Follaton audience watched a trailer it received a massive vote of approval.

"I first saw it at Dartington but would simply love to see it again," said Sheila.

" I think it was the best film I've seen for some time. Very powerful."

FCC chairman Martin Foster said: "This is a perfect example of our community cinema in action – a great film suggested by a member of the audience, voted for at the next screening and now on screen for anyone to come along and enjoy.

"We think Follaton Community Cinema is unique in the way we choose our films. It's wonderful to see democracy in action – and to be able to show some of the best films in the world as a result.

"We'd like to invite anyone who loves the movies to come along on Friday. We can promise a warm welcome – and home-made cake and a decent cuppa."

A Separation won this year's Academy Award for Best Foreign Film and took the honours for Best Film and Best Actress at the Berlin International Film Festival. It also won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.

It will be shown at the Follaton Community Centre and the doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
