'TIS the season to be jolly for motorsports fans, who are as usual well served by the latest releases on to the DVD shelves, writes Guy Henderson.

The pick of the season reviews issued so far is the British Touring Car Championship package, which is spread across two discs and runs to more than six hours of footage all told.

Every race is covered in full detail, of course, with the best camera angles and close-up action of every bent body panel and smashed wing mirror in a no-holds-barred season of ferocious racing. This video shows footage from a previous season

The battle for the title came down to a final round face-off between rivals Jason Plato and Fabrizio Giovanardi, and what followed was an unmissable afternoon's racing.

For the off-road enthusiast, the name of the late Colin McRae is written large among the latest releases.

Colin McRae - Rally Legend is a two-hour tribute to the former World Rally Champion, who died in a helicopter accident in 2007.

Packed with interviews, anecdotes and amazing action footage from McRae's career, this is a fitting memento for any fan.

A tribute of a different kind is contained in the Colin McRae Stages Rally 08, which covers a rally in Scotland last summer which attracted some of the most famous names from the sport.

Colin's father and brother took part, along with the likes of Bjorn Waldegaard, Hannu Mikkola and Ari Vatanen.
