Firefighters called to 'deliberate' Torquay care home fire
POLICE and firefighters were called to a residential care home in Torquay yesterday after a bedroom was set on fire deliberately.
The alarm was raised at 1.30pm at the home at Lummaton Cross, Barton.
Two fire crews from Torquay were sent to the scene, and discovered a fire on the first floor.
Crews got to work with two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
Everyone in the home was accounted for.
A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "The fire started in a bedroom, which was ignited deliberately.
"The bedroom was severely damaged by the fire. Crews ventilated the property using positive pressure fans. Small tools and one short extension ladder was also used. Police attended the incident."
