Flautist Ashley's salute to Bolivia
ASHLEY Solomon and Terence Charlston (pictured) perform for the Totnes Early Music Society tomorrow night.
In 2008, flautist Ashley Solomon was awarded a prestigious prize in recognition of the assistance he has given to native Bolivian Indians, and the promotion and preservation of Bolivian music, but he is equally at home playing baroque music in concert halls all over the world.
Now he has found the perfect blend of his interests, as he offers Totnes concert goers the opportunity to hear the Sonata Chiquitano, a piece of Bolivian baroque music discovered only five years ago deep in the Bolivian jungle.
Ashley will be performing with harpsichordist Terence Charlston at the United Free Church Totnes tomorrow in a concert entitled Les Nations.

Their concert will include works by Frederic the Great of Prussia, Handel, and CPE Bach — and the Bolivian sonata, of course.
Harpsichordist Terence Charlston has had an equally impressive musical career, and has extensive experience as a soloist and chamber musician, playing with I Fagiolini, Florilegium and the quartet London Baroque, with whom he has given more than 400 concerts.
He has recorded more than 40 CDs on harpsichord, organ, virginals and clavichord, founded the Department of Historical Performance at the Royal Academy of Music, and is now Professor of Harpsichord at the Royal College of Music.
This concert is the fourth in a season of six organised by the Totnes Early Music Society.
