STAFF and students came together over a special free breakfast as part of a campaign to encourage youngsters have a healthy start of the day.

The free breakfasts for students at Dartmouth Academy were organised by Café Alf Resco.

Alf's owners, Kate and Pete Ryder, who have a son at the school, offered all local children free breakfasts last week as part of the 'Shake Up Your Wake Up campaign, which aims to get as many children to eat breakfast as possible, to improve their health and aid their attainment at school.

Academy principal Nick Hindmarsh and business manager Simon Rushton were among the staff who joined students at the popular café each morning throughout the week.

He said: "It was a lovely offer from Kate and Peter of free breakfasts for all children and we wanted to show how much we supported their idea.

"It was a good opportunity to spend some time chatting to the students in a relaxed atmosphere, and getting to know them a bit better.

"All the staff who popped down commented on the friendly and welcoming atmosphere for them and the students. It has been a true community event and a very successful one too."
