A ship which was capsized in heavy seas of the South Devon coast a week ago has become embedded in sand, hampering salvage efforts. The Girl Rona was toppled at Teignmouth, last Monday. Five crew were onboard, but all were rescued uninjured. The boat has since been lying on her side close to shore. Yesterday, Brixham Coastguard said attempts to haul her in were ongoing, but the sand which had built up around the ship had to be moved, and water pumped off while she was hauled upright, to keep her afloat. The salvage company is expected to try again today.
