Future plans, activities and events at heart of Teignbridge’s second Cycling Forum.
Cycle enthusiasts, organisations and decision makers came together for the second Cycling Forum, organised by Teignbridge District Council.
Held at Old Forde House, Newton Abbot, the Forum featured presentations and talks from those involved in cycling with the focus firmly on the future, hosting events and giving residents better access to routes and two-wheel based activities.
The Forum followed the success of the first event in November last year. It was established to promote cycling and improve the provision for cyclists in the Teignbridge area. It meets annually and is made up of representatives of a range of cycle groups, local community organisations and partners.
The aim is to help shape development of future local cycle projects and priorities by bringing together all the relevant organisations involved as well as highlight and promote the good work being done by many organisations in making it even easier for people of all ages to take up cycling.

“And you don't pay a penny in road tax either, there's no such thing. You pay Vehicle Excise Duty. The cost of road construction and maintenance comes out of general taxation, the tax paying British public pay for the roads, whether they drive or not.
Most cyclists also own cars - very few adults in this country don't. I cycle. I also drive. I pay VED on 1 car, 1 van for work and 2 motorcycles. I pay more than you.
Don't talk to me about morality, motorists kill around 3000 people a year. That's around 3000 more than cyclists do.”

“More money and time spent on cyclist, who don,t pay a penney in road tax, and 80% of them break every rule in the book, cycling on pavements and going through red traffic lights etc
With all the cut backs on front line services and the dia financial posision that the country is
in it is wrong and inmoral to spend a penney more on cyclist
What about a forum for pedestrains? We could try to get our pavements and foopaths back and do away with shared paths, also to stop cars and vans/lorries parking on them”
