CAR salesman Mark Wilkinson has put together a team of colleagues and friends to run the Torbay Half Marathon.

The 41-year-old, from Torquay, who works at BMW dealer Ocean Torbay in Paignton, decided to enter the event to raise money for the Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome support group.

His son, Seth, who recently celebrated his second birthday, has Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome, an extremely rare disorder which manifests itself with a learning disability as well as physical and behavioural problems.

Mark and his wife Bex attended a conference and weekend for families affected by RTS, which was a 'fantastic experience' for them.

"It enabled us to meet other parents and children with RTS, and it helped us learn more about our son's condition," said Mark.

"I want people to donate as much as they can to enable more conferences and support to the families with RTS children."

Mark thought the Torbay Half Marathon, which starts and finishes on Paignton seafront on Sunday, June 23, would be a good way to raise funds, and his colleagues and friends were keen to add their support.

His colleagues Louise Kasprowicz, Martin Pearse, Jake Piercy and Tim Mitchell also signed up for the event, as did friends Craig Collins, John Everest, Justin Molyan-Jones and Lee Sylvester.

"I'm not really a runner — in fact, I don't do much exercise," said Mark, who also has a 16-year-old daughter, Megan, and a four-year-old son, Ashton.

"We started training at the beginning of January and it's going quite well."

Ocean BMW will be one of the team's main sponsors.
