KEEN gardeners and would-be florists are being sought for new courses being run at Hannahs@Seale-Hayne.

Bicton College tutors are hosting the courses from February 23.

The 20-week garden design course will look into all aspects of planning an attractive and functional garden layout.

The 15-week floral design course will be led by master florist Sachiko Smale, who will be encouraging practical creativity and experimentation and increasing confidence with flowers.

A spokesman for Hannahs said: "We are creating a partnership which will position Seale-Hayne as a key outreach site for Bicton.

"As we grow the partnership, the plan is to open up the farm and land-based courses.

"It will be wonderful to have Bicton's experienced tutors and course leaders on site."

Patrick Welch, head of horticulture and floristry at Bicton College, said that Seale-Hayne's land-based educational legacy is an important part of the fabric of South Devon.

He said: "We have resumed these courses in the Newton Abbot area due to popular demand. A growing number of inquiries encouraged us to offer this small selection in the first instance with a view to expanding over time."

A limited number of places are still available for both courses. If you are interested, email shortcourses@bicton.ac.uk or call 01395 562347.
