SWIMMING: George Gibson and Catherine Harvey were Oddicombe's top swimmers with two wins each at the Scott Ormsby Gala held at Teignmouth Lido.

George took first place in the 11/12yrs 50m fly and 100m breaststroke, and followed that with a runners-up finish in the 50m breaststroke.

Catherine won both the 15/16yrs 100m breaststroke and freestyle.

There were also runners-up finishes for Ross Owen in the 9/10yrs 50m backstroke, Alfie Payne in the 9/10yrs 50m breaststroke, Jessica Schoeneberg in the 9/10yrs 50m freestyle and the boys 4x2 medley relay.

At the recent meeting held at the Pyramids in Exeter, George Gibson and Hannah Owen were Oddicombe's only winners in a friendly 12-and-under gala against Coventry, Dawlish, Tiverton and Exeter A and B.

George won the boys' 12-and-under 50m breaststroke while Hannah put in a fine performance to win the girls' 12-and-under 50m freestyle.

There were other goods swims from Ross Owen, Amy Potter and both the boys and girls' relay teams.

Oddicombe finished fifth in the final standings. Exeter A won it from Coventry, with Dawlish third and Exeter B fourth. Tiverton were sixth.

There's been another cause for celebration at the Oddicombe club recently — head coach Don Roberts has just celebrated his 80th birthday and was presented with a card and engraved tankard.
