HUNT supporters say their annual Boxing Day events passed without incident across South Devon.

Hundreds turned out to support the meets of the South Devon Hunt on Dartmoor and the Dart Vale and South Pool Harriers at Kingsbridge for what is traditionally the busiest day of the year for them.

Alison Hawes, south west representative for the Countryside Alliance, said: "There were no problems at all and everybody had a good turnout which is normal for Boxing Day.

"It passed without any incident at all.

"I was down at Kingsbridge and there was a huge turnout there as we see every year. I think the fact it was nice weather helped."

Animal rights group The International Fund for Animal Welfare reminded hunts they must act within the law.

Robbie Marsland, UK director of IFAW, said: "We have no problem at all with hunts meeting to enjoy a gallop through the countryside, over Christmas or at any other time, as long as this does not involve wild animals being cruelly chased and killed."
