Green racks up first national BMX title at Bournemouth

DECOY BMX club got back to winning ways in the 2010 National Race Series, which has just ended with two rounds in Bournemouth.

There are races for youngsters aged six upwards and the Newton Abbot club contested in most of the classes.

Ethan Squibb in his first full national season in the male nine-year-old class, achieved an impressive seventh-place finish.

Pride of place went to Haydon Green in the male 11-year-olds, who moved from eighth in 2009 to take the top spot this year. Club-mate Benji Armitage — seventh last year — moved up to fourth.

Another category winner was Tom Novis, who won the 24-inch wheel class for 9-12-year-olds.Novis was second overall on his 20-inch machine in his age group.

Oliver Fay (male 14s) finished seventh after a mid-season injury. Jake Cornforth from Paignton finished tenth again after a mid-season injury.

Olympic hopeful Dan McBride has been riding in the male elite class this year against the fastest riders in the UK. He did the club proud by finishing an impressive fourth overall.

There were two Decoy riders in the category for females aged 11-12-year-olds. Katie Yeates finished in fourth and Emily Green sixth. Tash Bradley claimed seventh in the 13-14 age range.

Andrew Green, riding a larger wheeled cruiser, took second place among the 13-14-year-olds. Paul Eccles, at 37 the club's oldest series rider, crashed at Bournemouth in the 35-39 class but was able to claim third overall.

Decoy finished sixth overall in the club standings in a field of 50. There were 12 rounds in the series, which took riders to Cheddar, Derby, Braintree, Manchester and Gosport.

The club HQ is in Coach Road, Newton Abbot.
