CELEBRATED dementia campaigner Norman McNamara has launched a fundraising scheme for Dementia Awareness Day.

Mr McNamara, from Torquay, has launched Planting Memories which involves supporters growing plants to sell for Dementia Awareness Day on September 15.

He said: "I hope those interested in gardening will help us raise public awareness of dementia and generate funds for charities involved with finding a cure and developing new treatments."

Mr McNamara was diagnosed with early onset dementia four years ago aged 50.

Since then, he has been campaigning to improve things for all those who have been touched by this devastating disease.

He said: "Anyone interested in gardening can plant memories. All you have to do is grow some garden plants of any kind over the summer and then sell them on or before DAD."
