A dedicated recycler has won a hamper of kitchenware items worth £50 after completing a waste review survey for South Hams District Council.
Dorne Clarke from Cornwood was among 850 residents who took part in the survey last summer which was aimed at gaining views about the future shape of recycling and waste collections in the district.
Mrs Clarke filled out the survey at one of the council's waste review road shows at Ivybridge Farmers Market.
Her name was picked out at random and she won the hamper full of items for storing and measuring food, along with recipe books and some local food goodies.
Mrs Clarke said:"I never expected to win. Recycling is very important to me so I was more than happy to fill out the survey. I didn't think anything further about it until I was contacted to say I'd won. The hamper is very nice indeed and I'm particular delighted with some of the kitchenware items like the fridge thermometer".
The waste and recycling review saw the council hold 22 road shows in different locations plus evening drop in sessions.
Over 1000 people were spoken to on a one to one basis.
The overwhelming majority said that they are satisfied with the service and saw clearly the benefits of recycling. Most were also keen to see more items recycled at the kerbside including glass and textiles.
All the results from the waste review will be used as part of the decision making process for the elected members, looking at yields of materials, costs and customer satisfaction and may lead to possible change in 2014.
