POLICE are looking for a handbag snatcher who reached under a toilet door while an elderly woman spent a penny in a public toilet.

The thief ran away after he stole the bag from inside one of the cubicles at the toilets in Station Road, Newton Abbot.

"The victim in this case is an elderly female who has been understandably shaken by the entire incident, so identifying the offender would beneficial," said a police spokesman.

"Even though all property was retrieved, police would still like to trace the male in question."

The incident occurred on January 15 shortly after 3pm. The offender placed his hand under the door and swiped the bag.

He then made off down an alleyway behind the Queen's Hotel where he was challenged by a passerby. He threatened the witness, but dropped the handbag.

The suspect is described as white male, possibly in his 20s. He had short brown hair and was wearing blue jeans, black trainers and a short sleeved stripy T-shirt with a brown or green body warmer with a cream coloured hoody sewn in.
