Happy Birthday to Paignton's Parkfield
A fun packed October half term will culminate in a fantastic first birthday celebration at Parkfield on Saturday 3 November.
Parkfield is one year old and to celebrate this milestone everyone is invited to 'experience the extreme' - and the not so extreme - at the Torbay Council run youth facility in Paignton.
There will be lots of indoor and outdoor activities on offer for everyone to try, regardless of their age, weather permitting. These will include a speed climbing competition on the climbing wall and a performance by the UK BMX Flatland champion, Lee Musselwhite. There'll be live music in the evening and all clubs running that day will have a birthday theme.
The first birthday celebration will follow an exciting half-term activity programme, which starts on Tuesday 30 October. Indoor climbing will be available every morning, and every afternoon there will be outdoor activities. These include coasteering, outdoor climbing, kayaking, Bikeability sessions and field craft, when the whole family can learn fire lighting and carving in Parkfield's grounds.

Workshops will also be held by the UK BMX Flatland champion, Lee Musselwhite, who will help 8 to 13 year olds try simple, safe and impressive BMX tricks. The media suite, youth room and multi sports area will also be open every afternoon.
Torbay Council's Executive Lead for Children, Schools and Families, Councillor Chris Lewis, said: "Happy Birthday Parkfield - I hope this is the first of many celebrations. In the first ten months more than 12 thousand visits were made to the Parkfield building. There are almost 130 registered climbers, over 600 members and the free BMX and skateboard tracks are still a big draw to the centre for young people.
"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported Parkfield over the past year and I hope more people will get involved in the October half term programme and first birthday celebrations."
Councillor Robert Excell, who has responsibility for sport, said: "Keeping active is so important to your health and wellbeing and Parkfield offers lots of opportunities to get involved in sport. This ranges from climbing wall sessions for all ages and abilities, sports like football and badminton in the sports hall and of course BMX racing and skateboarding.
"Parkfield is always looking for ways of improving and from November there will be a new BMX Club running every fortnight, which will be a great addition to the activities offered. So if you know any budding BMX racers please let them know about this. Details will be sent out on Twitter and Parkfield's Facebook site when they have been finalised."
Parkfield offers a range of facilities including a large sports hall/theatre that can be used for different events, DJ/Recording Rooms, an IT suite, meeting rooms and a café.
There are lots of climbing wall groups for all ages and abilities including sessions for beginners, adults, children, women and the more experienced. Climbing wall birthday parties are also available.
The outside BMX Track and Skatepark are free to use. A number of skatejams and other bike and scooter related events have already been held here and more will be taking place in the future.
