VICKI Harris continues to dominate the leaderboard at Churston — the ladies' Ridge Cup winner, who was also part of the victorious ladies captain's day team and medal round winner over the last month, has done it yet again (writes Pat Bray).

Cuts in her handicap have simply meant she has risen to the challenge and played even better, and for most the loss of what will now be five shots after another scintillating round, would have meant they were happy just to stay within their new buffer zone.

In glorious conditions, the course softened by last week's rain, Vicki set about proving once more that she can improve even further — her fabulous 40 points the best of the day, and she will play off 15 next time around.

With Churston assistant pro Dan Leins as her mentor, she is simply on a great roll.

There were handicap reductions too for Anne Granville, who is also making a habit of staying on the leaderboard, now down to 10.

Jean Barrell, Jean Strain and Marjorie Pinder also lost a shot, Jean now returning to the elite Division One.

It is never easy to get that important birdie on the par threes at Churston to take a share of the new balls pot, so Wendy Gorst decided to try another route and got her round off to a flying start — her pitch to the first green for her second shot obligingly turning nicely to drop into the hole.

Betty Wyatt and Joan Davis were the other twos by the more conventional route on the 17th.

The men's monthly medal incorporated the annual Crawford Cup, which was won by Terry Goddard with a nett 67 off his 14 handicap.

Jim Pettigrew was hot on his heels in second place with a tidy nett 68 off six, while Peter Macloughlin came in with 69 off 12. Mike Brown's nett 70 took fourth on countback from Jason Jeffrey.

The best gross score of the day went to Joe Davis with a magnificent 71.

The most disappointed player on the day must have been Dennis Williamson, who managed a stunning two on the par four 10th, only to walk off with a four as he was three off.

The Silver Jubilee was won by Steve Prior and Ian Wilson with a nett 64.5.

John Knapman and Peter Greenham were second with nett 65, ahead of Joe Davis and Gerry Keen (66) and Ray Harris and Tony Mosley (66.5).

Credit must also go to young Amy and James Loosemore, not in the prizes this time but coming in a respectable sixth and seventh place.

The adult and junior sections combined for a foursomes competition on Sunday, which proved to be something of a family affair.

Terry Dart and granddaughter Lexi Dart won with a hard-earned 40 points.

One point behind on 39 were father and son Steve and Ciaran Ivey, who took second on countback from the brother and sister pairing of Richard and Jessica Francis.

In fourth were another father and son, Simon and James Loosemore with 38 points, from uncle and nephew Sam Stephens and Josh Hendren with 37 points.

Jamie Chase and Jack Fulcher took sixth spot with 35 points and a better back nine.
