Helping younger pupils in Newton Abbot
OLDER students at Coombeshead Academy have been helping new starters settle in to secondary school life.
A group from year eight at the Newton Abbot school were selected by their tutors to mentor the younger children.
An external training company, Kidscape, was brought in to help the peers with their communication and listening skills.
"The mentors go into classes and speak to year seven students about how they organise their time, homework and any other issues they have," said Lucy Hore, year eight tutor.

"This is a pilot project and we have 35 peers selected. If there are any problems, they then speak to a staff member and book an appointment to iron out any issues."
Maddie Phelan, 13, is enjoying her role as a peer mentor.
She said: "We want the year seven students to feel at ease and as we aren't much older we hope they'll talk to us about anything that's bothering them about school life."
