CREATIVE Cow is heading to Torquay with Richard Brinsley Sheridan's play The Rivals.

Set in the 1700s, The Rivals tells the story of a day in the life of a circle of socialites swooping in on the fashionable city of Bath, to take the waters, find romance and have a jolly good gossip. Confusion, duels, madness and mayhem ensue in this hilarious period masterpiece.

Enter Mrs Malaprop with her famous twisted phrases, her niece Lydia Languish who is busy falling in love with the handsome Captain Jack, who himself is being pushed around by his explosive father Sir Anthony Absolute.

The company is called Creative Cow because it was conceived on a cattle farm in Devon, where productions are managed and rehearsed before touring.

Spokesman Katherine Senior said: "We're very excited about this new production. It's a hugely enjoyable — and expertly crafted — piece of theatre that audiences just love. We've worked hard, and had huge fun, making sure we get the very best from it for our audiences. In other words, we're presenting a great night out and we're very much looking forward to playing in Devon."

It plays the Little Theatre on November 7.
