A HOLIDAY romance led to a 60-year marriage for one Torquay couple.

Cyril, 81, and Peggy King, 82, celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary tomorrow.

The couple met while Peggy was visiting her sister in Folkestone.

She recalls: "I was sitting on my own at a dance when Cyril came up to me and asked if I wanted to dance.

"I said yes and that was the beginning of it all."

Cyril, who had been recently demobbed after war service, soon moved to be near Peggy in Teignmouth.

He stayed in a bed and breakfast in Brunswick Street because there was no room at Peggy's family home in Bickford Lane.

Peggy is one of seven siblings.

The couple married at Newton Abbot registry office on October 9, 1948.

Cyril worked in the building trade before becoming a milkman for 16 years.

He then became a porter and Peggy was a seamstress at Langdon Hospital, Dawlish, before they retired.

The couple have two children, Susan and Alan, grandchildren Sarah, Gavin, Neil and Dean, and great grandchildren Toby and Faye.

The couple celebrated their anniversary with friends and family on Saturday.

“"Congratulations to you both" what a wonderful story. We wish the same again for the future.
    |Out of interest, did you know by chance a Joseph John Curry and a Mary Elizabeth Curry, That was my mum and dad. They died within months of each other and I'm Robert (Bob) I moved away after they died. My grand parents lived in Bickford Lane as well. number 26. Their names were Thomas and Mary Ellen Curry. Every now and again I look in on my hometown, I get a bit homesick .
I wish you both all the best of wishes and lots of happiness for the future.
    Bob and Sue Curry.
