Honest Martin Ling has no complaints after disappointing Torquay United performance
"We got what we deserved – nothing," was manager Martin Ling's blunt verdict on Torquay United's 2-1 defeat away to lowly Wycombe Wanderers.
"That's possibly our worst performance of the season," said a visibly disappointed Gulls' boss after the npower League Two setback. "We were second to the first balls and second to the second balls.
"After the fightback against Aldershot on Tuesday night, we thought we might be pushing in the right direction, but not at any time did we get a head of steam up here. Both defensively and offensively, it wasn't good enough," the United manager added.
Ling did say: "The only one I would really exempt from criticism was Rene Howe – I thought he was trying to turn it around at all times.

"You could have asked: 'Who is playing to their potential here?' Rene was probably the only one.
"At half-time Rene's goal had given us a lifeline, and we needed to go out in the second half and use that get-out-of-jail-card. But it didn't happen.
"We were second-best in all departments. We've not had back-to-back wins since March, and that's very frustrating," Ling added.
"Our inconsistency even showed the other night against Aldershot, from the first half to the second half.
"I thought Wycombe played for Gareth Ainsworth – they want him to get the job, and they did everything they could to help him get it.
"I thought he was as good as anyone on the pitch as well."
Wanderers' 39-year-old caretaker player-manager said: "I am so pleased that we got a result at last, because it was nothing less than we deserved. Everyone was so up for this, and not just talking about it.
"People were flying into challenges that we haven't seen from Wycombe players for a while.
"Just before half-time isn't a nice time to concede, but we didn't let it affect us. We created a lot of chances today and restricted Torquay to very few."
