Hopwood catch a day too late for competition
A DAY after Brixham Sea Anglers' Club's two species competition was won by Doug Mosedale, member Jamie Hopwood went out on a private boat and caught an even bigger specimen.
Hopwood went wreck-fishing and came back with a fine 19lb 8oz pollack — bettering the 18lb 4oz catch that won angling chairman Doug the club's competition aboard Silver Sea.

On a later wreck-fishing trip, Rob Caunter had whiting to 2lb 8oz 10dr and, on the same trip, Chris Martin had an excellent ling which took the club scales to 24lb 15oz.
Brixham SAC's next competition is a while away, on April 4, when spring brings hopefully a run of plaice for competitors for the best fish from the Skerries banks.
April 17 is the club's presentation night, when a vast array of trophies, shields, medals and certificates — plus THAT trophy — will be awarded ... come hell or high water, I will be there!
TORBAY & Babbacombe ASA members, without an organised competition over the weekend, started to poke around from boat and shore.
Committee member Nick Best went out on his own boat on Friday to find a 4lb 4oz plaice which, after weighing, was returned alive to the sea, as the fish had recently spawned.
In a couple of months the same fish could weigh up to 5½lb after a good feed of their principal diet, clam siphons.
Other club members found shore marks to their liking, and on Sunday wheedled out from local Torbay marks a brace of superbly marked ballan wrasse for Gary Harding and Paul Scott, whose fish weighed 5lb 4oz 14dr and 5lb 13oz 4dr respectively.
MARTYN Green is hosting a teach-in and rig-making session for Baywater Anglers on Sunday, from 3pm to 6pm.
"I thought it might be nice to have an indoor session for once, looking at rigs, flies, a mixture of both or whatever you fancy," he said.
"Give me a bell beforehand and I'll put together an agenda for the afternoon."
Call Martyn on 07704 602180 for further details on this, or Baywater's next social fish and teach-in at Babbacombe Pier on March 5 (6pm to 9.30pm).
PAIGNTON Sea Anglers Association's next competition is on Sunday, March 14, for the best specimen.
It starts at midnight and finishes at 7.30pm. The weigh-in follows at the clubhouse, from 7.30pm to 8pm.
