Hospital's final days as part of the NHS
IN the early 1990s, two Totnes hospitals closed and a brand new one opened.
Broomborough, on the Plymouth Road, was converted into flats but the Totnes Cottage Hospital on Bridgetown Hill continued to look after patients as a private nursing home for those with mental health issues.
It was known as Redlands but closed two years ago leaving the site empty and awaiting redevelopment.
Our pictures today record the hospital's last days as part of the NHS.

In January 1993, remaining staff held a farewell party also attended by the local GP. Staff were then redeployed, many taking up posts in the new hospital in Coronation Road.
