South Devon College Principal Stephen Criddle and Chair of the Governing Body Kevin Mowat introduced Totnes MP Dr Sarah Wollaston MP and special guest Dr Larry F. Devane to address the students and congratulate them. Dr Devane is President of Redlands Community College in Oklahoma, USA, whom the college has a developing partnership.

The culmination of the awards was the announcement of the Paul Haigney Award for 'Outstanding academic achievement and contribution'. It is awarded by the Friends of South Devon College charitable trust. This year the award went to A level student Oliver Hicks, from Paignton, who achieved an A* in Maths, A in Physics and A in Computing. He is studying a masters in Mechanical Engineering Oxford University and was unable to attend, so his mother accepted the award on his behalf.
