Hutchings claims Founders Shield

FINGLE GLEN'S ladies section Founders Shield is sponsored by Mo Jones & Pauline Miliffe who provide a generous and wide ranging prize table annually.

The overall winner this year was Molly Hutchings who carded 38 superb points, whilst Sue Reed (36), Bernadette Maynard (36), Angela Hubble (33) & Anne Woodger (30) were also in the prizes.

Isobel Ravden was the top ADP player with 36 points from Kate Blake on 34. Ann Short carded the best back 9 of 16 points with Phil Brewer & Margaret Luke sharing the front 9 honours with 15. Pauline Baker's 27 points earned her the prize for the best score by a 36 handicapper. Hidden holes prizes went to Sam Brooks, Norma Gillson, Irene Scott, Sandra Townsley & Sally Baker.

The seniors contested the David Langton Pairs Trophy for their latest outing, played in betterball Stableford format. Seniors captain Ken Broad enjoyed the round of his life as he and partner Peter Trott carded 42 points to win on countback from Bob Feather & Colin Vincent. Colin Bramley & Martin Kerrane were third with 40 points on countback from Brian Ridgeway & club captain Jeff Maynard.

Two main course meals at Chaucers in Exeter High Street was the top prize in the Chaucers Midweek Monthly Medal, in addition to the medal & the usual prize vouchers. Ian Crocker claimed first place with (79 - 14) net 65 followed by James Urquhart (76 - 8) 68 & Chris Baxendale (75 - 6) 69.

Division 2 went the way of Bob Feather with net 68 from Roger McAndrews (69) & Harry Coleman (70).

The main event of the week was the 36 hole Club Championship with the ALC Windows Scratch Cup and the Handicap Championship Trophy up for grabs. At the end of day one James Harris & Jamie Hoskins shared the top of the scratch leaderboard after taking just 65 shots to complete their rounds whilst 16 year old James Urquhart carded an outstanding net 59 off his handicap of 8 to lead the chase for the Handicap championship.

Although many others were waiting in the wings to challenge on day two James Harris & James Urquhart held their nerves to claim the trophies. Harris carded (63 + 67) 130 gross, whilst Urquhart reduced his handicap from 8 to 6 with a (59 + 65) net 124 for the handicap trophy. Sandy Urquhart (net 129), Jamie Hoskins (130), Jon Durbin (130), Andy Rogers (132), Allan Vincent (135), Oliver Cowl (135), Mike Murray (135) & Steve Ebdon (136) completed the line-up of prize winners.

With seven of the winners featuring in the club Palairet squad this weekend hopes are high for progression through the quarter finals and on to finals day.
