TORQUAY United's Irish midfielder Ian Morris is determined to defy all predictions and play again before the end of this season.

Morris, who ruptured his left Achilles tendon seven weeks ago, wants to be back in time to help the Gulls in a possible League Two promotion push.

"The plan is definitely to play before the end of the season – that's what me and Damian (physio Damian Davey) are aiming for," said Morris, who is still celebrating the arrival of daughter Cora a fortnight ago.

"Obviously, things can change – I might get back earlier or later.

"But with Damo and James Davies, who is one of the top consultants in the country at Torbay Hospital, I don't think I could be in more capable hands."

Morris suffered his injury in a training session before United's 1-1 draw at Chesterfield on September 29.

He is still wearing a special 'boot' 24 hours a day.

"I even have to wear it in bed, so what with that and Cora chipping in as well, my eyes are hanging out of my head at the moment.

"Away from the family, it's going to be fairly boring until about January

"I'm doing a lot of upper body work and and leg weights, and it's been great to get a sweat on riding the bike.

"I get into training a fair bit, and it's good fun giving the lads a bit of stick, especially as they can't have a go back at me!"

Morris has a progress-report appointment with Dr Davies next week, but January will be when the real 'rehab' starts.

Then it will be a long, hard and sometimes painful road back to that hoped-for return to action in the Spring.
