Icy weather causes spate of car crashes
Freezing conditions contributed to a string of accidents on the region's roads yesterday, according to police.
In the first of many collisions – despite extensive gritting – officers were called to the A30 eastbound at Sourton Cross where a 3.5-tonne van had slid into the crash barrier at 5.45am.
Another two vehicles left the road in Tavistock in two separate crashes. One car overturned near the Whitchurch turn-off at 7.05am, along with another car which crashed in the same location.
A small bridge near Kingsbridge was completely blocked yesterday morning after a tractor and car collided.
