Inaugural awards are a night to remember
A NIGHT of stunning entertainment, glitz and celebration greeted guests at the inaugural English Riviera and South Devon Tourism and Hospitality Awards.
The highlight of the night was performances from the cast of Babbacombe Theatre's West End Now who impressed the 270 strong audience with their Les Miserables numbers.
It showed off the incredible wealth of young talent which is being nurtured by the theatre's owner, Colin Matthews who has been at the helm for the past 27 years, both producing and directing shows.
Guest speaker for the night, comedian and writer Peter Richardson, paid tribute to the young talent in the show including Lily Laight, who has recently appeared in his next project Five go to Rehab which he has been filming in the area with the likes of Jennifer Saunders, Rik Mayall and Robbie Coltrane.
He also told guests about dining with Paul McCartney and creating the character of Neil from the Young Ones with Nigel Planer.
Mr Richardson said: "It is so nice to be part of this local event being a local person. My career started in Devon. I am from South Devon and I live here. I can't think of anywhere more beautiful in the world."
Chairman of the judging panel Richard Cuming told guests what a difficult job they had had choosing the winners and thanked the panel of judges for their time and effort.
