I REALLY do not like the idea of getting involved in politics, but I seethe at the idea of losing a vital link with tourists and their needs.

The whole of Devon relies directly or indirectly on 'money from outside'. Some 30 years ago South Hams Council decided to close the Tourist Information Centre in Kingsbridge, as an unnecessary cost.

However, due to the entrepreneurial endeavours of three local businessmen the now named Information Centre in Kingsbridge has continued to operate successfully! I believe that Dartmouth also operates in a similar manner. Both are staffed with paid employees who are not only anxious to support their individual areas but carry out their responsibilities with enthusiasm and politeness that is often not forthcoming in a local government environ.

I am sure that given the opportunity, there are similar businessmen who can and should put their best foot forward and do the same for Brixham. If it were not for my age I would certainly be organising it now, if only to prove to Torbay Council that 'booze up and brewery' can go together!
