THE Cary Arms in Babbacombe has been shortlisted in the finals of the South Devon excellence Awards.

The flagship development of millionaire Peter de Savaray under the banner of his Havana West company even has an exclusive wedding pod and has made it through to the last three firms in this years category of Best Accommodation Provider.

Law firm Kitson Hutchings are sponsoring the category, and the winner will be announced at a special awards ceremony at The Gallery at South Devon college on November 19. The £9million re-development project of the pub, also known as 'The Inn on the Beach' was completed last Easter and saw Mr de Savaray personally welcoming the first draft of guests.

Then in July the revamped pub and boutique hotel on the shorefront of Babbacombe Beach made a £5,000 addition to its burgeoning repertoire as an exclusive venue by securing a licence to wed people in a glass pod bought from the Chelsea Flower Show.

Ian Solkin, project manager for Havana West, said he was 'delighted' the Cary Arms had been shortlisted, adding there were some 'great awards' and 'quality businesses in the area'.

"These awards give them a real opportunity to show case and present what they are doing," he said.

He added: "It is really good to have the college involved as the place that is hosting the awards and that is in partnership because it is a real signal for the younger generation coming up and through to see what companies are out there and feel part of the local business community."
