A £1.4 MILLION state-of-the-art recycling plant that could transform Devon's trade and domestic recycling capability has been crowned the most innovative company in South Devon.

TQ Recycling Ltd's material recovery facility at Torr Quarry, near Kingsbridge, is the first of its kind in the area.

It can deal with up to 30,000 tonnes of waste a year and has created 18 new jobs. The company was in line for two gongs this year but were pipped to the post by Dartmoor Chilli Farm in the Best Green Business category.

Yet they beat off stiff competition to win the most innovative company category, being praised by judges for showing innovation in 'many ways'. "They are helping to save the planet as well as reducing other business' costs," said judges.

David Newman, from the company, said: "It is fantastic. It is a real honour and recognition of the wonderful team that has built the business over three years; the technology and investment that we have depended on; and the steps we have taken to make a difference."
