Inquest opens into death of Paignton man found dead in pub car park

AN inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of a man whose charred remains were found in a burnt out car in Paignton.

John William Griffiths, 64, a retired coach driver, died of severe burns, the coroner has been told.

Mr Griffiths, who was born in St Helens, was married and lived in Torquay Road, Paignton.

On January 27 there was a car fire in the car park of the Polsham Arms pub in Lower Polsham Road.

Once the fire was extinguished the car was found to contain the remains of a body.

The remains have now been identified as those of Mr Griffiths.

There are no suspicious circumstances.
