The Torbay and South Devon coroner has been told Mrs Cole, nee Moon, was born in Torquay and was a retired legal secretary.

Police were called to the address following reports a woman had severe injuries and was believed to be dead.

Mrs Cole was confirmed dead by paramedics at the scene.

Cause of death has yet to be determined pending the results of histology and toxicology, the coroner has been told.

The inquest has now been adjourned.

Mr Cole was detained at the address and later treated for injuries of his own at Torbay Hospital.

He then appeared before magistrates in Torquay and the case was sent to the crown court.
