TWO instructors from the Torbay based TYGA Martial Arts were recently invited to attend the TYGA systems one day outdoor training course held at Wimbledon sports arena in London.

Sensei Becky Lees and Sensei Jon Lees along with one of the club's top students Sensei Dan Ling (2nd Dan black belt) attended the six-hour long course which followed with a special grading for the club's instructors.

After a gruelling day of training in the July sun, which included training in Karate and self defence, as well as Kung-Fu and Ju Jitsu, the two instructors successfully passed their 5th Dan gradings, (five levels above a normal black belt). The pair are now amongst the highest ranking karate black belts in the country. This high ranking new grade is the icing on top of what has been a fantastic year for the pair which has seen them winning awards at the UK black belt hall of fame in June as well as for their coaching abilities at the Devon sports awards and Torbay sports personality awards. The pair have also been added to the star coach section of the Torbay sports partnerships website www.torbaysport.com.

Dan Ling who was invited to come along and support his instructors said "watching such a high grading is an honour in itself, but to see the two instructors who have taken me from a white belt all the way to a second Dan black belt, pass their grades was inspirational, the two had to fight very hard against other high ranking black belts as part of the grading which also tested their martial arts knowledge, fitness and mental spirit."
