GOLF: Invitation day proves popular at Hele Park

INSTEAD of splitting the Club into Men's, Ladies, Seniors' and Lady Vets' Hele Park held it's first Club Invitiation Day, welcoming men's, ladies' and mixed pairings – old and young alike - to compete on the same day.

There was a full field on a beautiful summer's day with some excellent scoring in a Betterball Stableford format.

Men's Pairs: 1st Fred Egbeare (23) & Keith Brandie (Churston – 17) 43 points; 2nd Richard Elson (15) & Rob Chapman (Stover – 21) 43 points; 3rd John Feltham (18) & Andy Livingstone (Stover – 9) 42 points.

Ladies' Pairs: 1st Teresa Metters (22) & Annmarie Cleave (Stover – 18) 37 points; 2nd Ruth Besant (29) & Issie MacFarlane (Teignmouth – 22) 35 points; 3rd Jackie Carr (18) & Sue Ray (Dainton Park – 19) 33 points.

Mixed Pairs: 1st Guy Westaway (16) & Leah Roelich (Teignmouth- 3) 43 points; 2nd Lesley Harris (18) & Alexis Lopez (Dainton Park – 7) 42 points; 3rd Derek Tucker (23) & Sheila Shipman (Stover – 36) 39 points.

Ladies' July & EWGA Medal 4: 1st Katie Mowll (13) net 68; 2nd Teresa Metters (22) net 69; 3rd Olga Lidbury (15) net 72.

Midweek mixed stableford: 1st Josh Martin (4) 40 points; 2nd Henry Fisher (17) 38 points; 3rd Steve Parnell (24) 38 points.

Juniors' 9 hole stableford – Div A: 1st Molly Pavey (54) 29 points; 2nd Mark Prowse (54) 27 points; 3rd George Husband (54) 23 points.

Juniors' stableford – Div 2: 1st Danny Harvey (39) 49 points; 2nd Daniel Payne (42) 48 points; 3rd Jay Porter (31) 44 points.

Juniors' Div 1 July medal: 1st Henry Fisher (17) net 61; 2nd Matt Clenahan (28) net 65; 3rd Ben Gauntlett (23) gross 97.

LONGSTANDING member Bill Mitchinson won the 2010 seniors' club championship at Hele Park.

Mitchinson needed countback to take the title from Abbi Heidarpour after both returned gross scores of 82. Roger Keayes was one shot behind in third.

Meanwhile, the club's charity day has taken the total raised for Rowcroft Hospice so far this year past the £4,000 mark.

In the day's team competition, the winners were Roy Bovey (Torquay), Adi Metters (Hele Park) and Tony Davis (Teignmouth) with 87 points.

An all-Hele Park team of pro Duncan Arnold, Sam Wallace and vice captain Lee Johnston were two points behind in second.

Alan and Annemarie Cleave (Stover) teamed up with Richard Armitage (Teignmouth) to score 82 points for third.

Other results - Seniors' stableford: 1 Mike Astill (19) 39pts, 2 Bill Clutterbuck (21) 38pts, 3 Lincoln Shaw (22) 36pts. Midweek Stableford: 1 Chris Abbott (23) 40pts, 2 Brian Skelton (23) 40pts, 3 Brennan Mountfield (27) 32pts. Queen Mother's stableford: 1 Glenn Bladon (19) 40pts, 2 Kevin Holmes (19) 40pts, 3 John Feltham (18) 39pts.
