JACKSON COOPER LIVE AND LOCAL- The Nameless Girl-Bright Light The Remixes (Review)
The Nameless Girl are duo Samuel J Booth and Jemma Crook.Who meet by chance in a recording studio in 2010. Quickly finding a musical marriage between Sam's dark melancholic melodies and Jemma's Pop meandering vocals . Resulting in last years album" Bipolar" fast forward to February 2013 with the realise of a slightly sideways move in the shape of the Remixes. Three versions of "Bright Light " from the album "Bipolar" Born after DJ Nick the Kid heard the original tune. With one foot directly in the door marked Ibiza 90,s anthems the track gains new life in these different settings. The one constant amongst crunching party baselines and trance dance piano is Jemma's breathing vocal like you have never heard it before. Almost sexy in tone and ambiguous in texture. Not only is it the common thread that holds the listeners attention but its weapon .Cleverly what these remixes have done is highlight the hook layer quality of the voice and made it the feature. This is to Nick the kids strength and a nod to his ability .I'm sure a lesser producer would have bypassed it completely. Instantly condemning these tracks to the bargain bucket trance ballroom bin.Is this a thinly valid attempt to breath new life and listenership into an old dog? or just what it is ..a fantastic track. Well that's up to you. What It does show is that a great song is just that. A great song however you bake the cake. Listen enjoy to the peoples alternative summer anthem. We could all do with a bit of fun.
