JACKSON COOPER LIVE AND LOCAL- Parkfield Battle Of The Bands
Fast approaching it's first anniversary the Parkfield youth centre in Preston played host to its first major music event . Parkfields under 18's Battle of the bands contest on Friday 24/8/12.
Six acts ranging from full on punk indie outfits to acoustic duo, battled it out to be the over all crowned winner. Most playing three songs and some proving and making the brave point to include self penned material.I myself the host and ring master in chief along with two guest Judges Malcolm Toft (from the Music Mill ) and Guy Rigby ( from one Wednesday Studios ) Both highly esteemed and full of knowledge .

Winners Double Rush with Jc, Guy & Malcolm
For a part of the country that doesn't believe in its own music scene I was taken back with the enthusiasm , quality and self belief that these young people had along with an audience begging to be taken away for the ride. All the artists had a willingness to hear what the judges really thought and to take it away as part of their musical growth in good grace.
The centre itself is run by a team of dedicated caring individuals that need to be given medals ( in an ideal world ) and have an awareness of the job. They know what needs to be done.

It was a great night and one I was proud to have helped out with in my own small way .I hear that there are plans for a second contest and more gigs.It would be criminal for this not to happen . From what I've seen local music is more than safe in these young hands.
Winners were
1) Double Rush -Winning one days full recording at one Wednesday studios
2) Without Permission -Wining Half days recording at the Music Mill plus £50
3) Lizard Circus -Winning £ 25

“Good to see the young getting a look in and the powers that be guiding them in this sort of way .
Lessons can be learnt !”
