SUPERMARKET giant Asda is still recruiting for jobs at its new Paignton store, which will open next month.

The store which replaces the defunct Focus DIY store off Brixham Road will create 110 permanent jobs and 20 seasonal positions and 15 roles for Asda employees who are being transferred from other stores in Newton Abbot and Torquay.

The store is the second one to be opened by the Walmart-owned firm in 12 months.

Last October the Torquay store opened where the Focus store used to be.

A spokesman for the firm said the new store was still recruiting.

He said: "This will be a boost to the economy. A mixture of full-time and seasonal positions are still to be filled and interested parties should visit the website to register their interest."

The new store, which was granted an alcohol licence earlier this month, will stock more than 10,000 products.

There will also be a small George clothing offering with a selection of women's and children's wear.

Rob Robertson, store manager at Asda Paignton, said: "We're feeling very positive about the creation of new jobs for local people and are all excited to be linking up with our new colleagues, including those who have transferred over from other stores.

"We think customers are going to be delighted with the new store. We hope they will be bowled over by the range and can expect the same great value and savings as they find in our larger stores.

"We are all champing at the bit to get the doors open and welcome our new customers through the door. Local residents can also look forward to the launch of our Paignton Community Life initiative, which we'll be announcing in the very near future."

The new supermarket will also feature cash machines, PayPoint services, a photo booth, in store collection services and a 108 space car park with disabled parking.

The store will open on July 16 at 10am.
