JUNIOR tennis continues to flourish in Dartmouth. Two new events that heralded the booming participation in junior tennis saw Tom Riley win the under-18s' round-robin, with Henry Newman winning the consolation event.

In an enthusiastically supported under-12 mixed singles competition, Hugh Ryder defeated James Callard and Sally Metchette defeated a spirited Joe Turner in the consolation event.

In the main draw, Joe Turner was to lose one of the best of the quarter-final matches when he went down to Sid Niblett 4-1, 1-4, 10-3.

The junior awards were part of the overall Regatta Tennis presentation ceremony where Basil Williams, president of Regatta Tennis and a former Regatta chairman paid tribute to Clarity Copiers' Leo Whittington (Strete) for his ten years of sponsorship of the tournament.

The tournament will be back next summer for its 43rd year with John Brotherton and the tennis committee hoping to name a new sponsor.
