South Devon Golf: Just two points separate top five teams
TORQUAY celebrated its annual Captain's Day last Saturday.
It is the responsibility of the current captain to come up with a weird and wonderful scoring system on the day and Bob Files didn't disappoint.

He decided to get members of different handicap ranges playing with one another, which created teams that would not normally play together.
Once the scores were completed a human computer was needed to work out the scores and Bob, fortunately, had lady captain Ann Fisher on hand to help. Bob was also grateful to the ladies section for helping out in various ways on the day.
The weather remained fine and consistent which was reflected in the scoring which was incredibly close with just two points separating the first five teams.
All the money raised on the day, £1700, went to the Captain's Charity, the 'Make a Wish' foundation which specialises in making dreams come true for unfortunate children. The day was completed with an evening function and raffle which was well attended.
Results - 1st: (102 pts) Paul Farmer, Jason Tozer, Jamie Horton, Jason Heath; 2nd (100 pts) Dave Cadwallader, Mike Lees, John Williams, Colin Brimicombe; 3rd (100 pts) Simon Hester, Trevor Sparkes, Geoff Evitts, Mike Affleck; 4th (100 pts) Keith Thompson, Nigel Colledge, George Barbour, Robbie Thompson; 5th (100 pts) Freddy Pethard, Albert Larmour, Ricky Wood, Tony Herrara.
TORQUAY ladies carried on when they left off last week – competing for the Pascoe Salver (writes Diane Evitts).
Played over two rounds the first round scores posted last week were one or two under par and the second round followed a similar pattern. Unfortunately for Caroline Craig her handicap-busting round of four under on Tuesday was just not enough to cushion the 74 posted last week. It did, however, reduce her handicap by two shots and reward her with top spot in the Silver Division together with the monthly medal prize of Dartington engraved glass.
The eventual winner of the Pascoe Salver was Christine Peterson, whose two under 70, together with the 71 last week gave her the Salver by just one shot. Historically these two-round competitions are nearly always decided in this fashion – two 'steady eddy' rounds.
Another notable score this week was that of Trudie Cross. A net 69 shaved one shot from her handicap and gave her top billing in the Bronze 1 division.
