GULLS BOSS Martin Ling has released central midfielder George Artemi, but he is keeping Paignton left winger Karl Baker until the end of the season.

Both players have come to the end of six-month deals at Torquay United, but Ling believes that Baker (pictured), 23, could still secure a permanent contract over the second half of the season.

Of the former Stoke Gabriel player, Ling said: "It's been difficult for Karl, because he hasn't had too many chances to show us what he can really do.

"But he has a talent, and he has done nothing wrong to warrant showing him the door now.

"Once the real winter is out of the way, he will get more games and more chances.

"I am looking for him to push on and show us a bit more."

One of those chances should come in next Wednesday's Devon St. Luke's Bowl Quarter-Final away to holders Buckland Athletic (7.45pm).

Of former Southend youngster Artemi, 20, Ling said: "George has tried hard over the last six months and we've enjoyed having him here, but he is in a position where we're already well covered.

"He wasn't getting near the first team, and it would have been no good for him to stay with no real prospect of something longer."
