Keeping a Newton Abbot tradition alive
MEMBERS of Newton Abbot Court Baron and Court Leet came together for an inspection of cloth and materials as part of St Leonard's Fair.
The courts and a group of youngsters, named the fair maids, visited various traders to keep up the tradition.
"We went to Austins and inspected a £200 coat, then we went to Hannahs charity shop and inspected Sanderson cotton," said Janet Parrott, portreeve to the manorial borough of Newton Abbot.
"We continued onto Rowcroft charity store and inspected a 100 per cent wool jumper and an Axminster wool carpet in Austins carpet department."
