POLICE carried out a 'Pubs Against Drugs' operation in three Kingsbridge pubs on Saturday evening.

With assistance from a drugs sniffer dog and members of the Special Constabulary, officers visited the Hermitage, the Creeks End and the Quay pubs.

Two men were detained for the purposes of strip searches.

Although no drugs were present, drug taking equipment was found on one of the men and further intelligence was gathered.

Pubs Against Drugs operations are run throughout Devon in order to help licensees keep their premises drug free.

The choice of pubs is random or may be in response to intelligence received from the community.

"Drugs in pubs will not be tolerated," said Sergeant David Green.

"Any drug dealer hoping to deal in pubs of Kingsbridge will face the risk of a police sniffer dog coming through the door at any moment and will face imprisonment."

Similar operations will be arranged in the future.

If anyone has information about drug activity please contact Kingsbridge police on Tel 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
