Kingskerswell bypass go-ahead welcomed
THE Kingskerswell bypass is set to get the go-ahead as part of a massive nationwide programme of government investment.
The project to build a new £76million link road between Newton Abbot and Torquay is likely to be given a green light when the government announces its multi-billion pound investment programme aimed at getting Britain's economy moving.

Most of the £30billion is expected to come from the big British pension funds, as well as Chinese investment.
However, £5bn will be paid for by further cuts in the present spending round.
There have been proposals to link Newton Abbot and Torquay with a new bypass for more than 50 years.
The South Devon business and tourism community has been campaigning for the new road for decades, although local opponents have always questioned the need for the new road.
The Herald Express has campaigned for many years to have the new road built.
It is one of 40 projects earmarked for help in tomorrow's announcement.
Lib Dem Bay MP Adrian Sanders has thanked campaigners locally and nationally for their support and hard work in obtaining funding for the Kingskerswell Bypass.
He said: "After decades of inaction by successive Governments, the Conservative-Liberal Democrat Coalition has finally given approval for the bypass to be built and has provided £76million to assist with construction as announced by the Chancellor in advance of his Autumn Statement.
"The campaign to build the road has been backed by local MPs, councils and business organisations including local bus operator Stagecoach. Once completed the bypass will improve Torbay and South Devon as a destination not only for tourists but also for investment in business as well as improving air quality in Kingskerswell.
"While we have been putting the case for the bypass for years, ultimately thanks must go to Nick Clegg’s pledge to prioritise and bring forward infrastructure projects. Given the history of failure on the part of single party Governments, this proves the instrumental influence Lib Dems have in Government.
"The Government’s decision is also a tremendous vote of confidence in South Devon. This will be the basis for rebuilding the local economy, which has been overlooked for too long.”
Dr Sarah Wollaston, MP for Totnes, said; “I am delighted to hear the announcement that thanks to much needed funding from the treasury, the Kingskerswell bypass has the green light to go ahead.
"This will provide a tremendous boost for investment and jobs in Torbay and is particularly welcome news for Brixham and Paignton. Congratulations and thank you to all those who have put so much time, effort and teamwork into this project over many years."

“Fantastic news. Now we wont have to take our lives in our hands just to go to the local shop or pub.
Anyone against the bypass should look at what a bypass has done to Newton Road between Scots Bridge and Laws Bridge.”

“@Draystone, go easy on Jason (and all his aliases). He inhabits a bleak, lonely and confusing
world which he attempts to rationalise by posting comment after comment of solecistic invective on topics as diverse as childrens' Christmas fêtes that he never attended and (allegedly distant) bypasses.
Things must be especially difficult for him at Christmas. Be nice.”

“It's worse than I thought, it looks like our newly outed Devonian JensonM (with the multi personality disorder) has stopped storing his sh*t and started snorting it.
Impressive response time though; kind of proves my point that he never drags his illiterate carcass far from the computer.
Oh, and by the way, It's one AND the same you thick tw*t.”

“Good news, long overdue. By the way Northcliffe Media Limited this website is completely CR*P, most of the News Headlines and other links I clink on don't work. Get it sorted.”

“pete_m..you do not pay my pension, I am RexDog and I glad that I do not live in the same little world as you and JensonNuShoozIsolde, the world of fantasy.
I went to Newton Abbot to shop today it took me 5 minutes to go from Hamelin Way to Penn Inn Roundabout and coming back on the reverse journey it took a whopping 8 minutes. I have yet to see a major traffic jam, in the past 20 years of travelling this road, up to three times a day. I ran a firm in Newton Abbot for 27 years, 450 people worked with me, we had private buses running to from Torquay and Paignton to run three shifts 24 hours a day, not once was anyone late for work, the buses set off half an hour before the shift started. We moved our complete operation from Torquay and Paignton to Newton Abbot. I wonder why we did that?”

“Just in case anyone missed the double Freudian slip from 'Jenson(I've never lived in Torbay)M' earlier today in his response to TimothyR, here it is again for your enjoyment: ……"Building a link road that will get more jobs HERE, generate more taxes and encourage people to come back to holiday HERE..." In order to maintain any shred of credibility to his pretence that he lives outside of the Bay I think the word he should have been using was 'THERE'.
On the subject of JensonNuShoozIsoldeM, have you seen how may posts this guy makes under his various aliases in a typical day? Now I know I shouldn't care about him after witnessing the vitriolic comments he aims at well meaning people on this site but, now that we are officially neighbours, I can't help worrying about him stuck in front of his computer day-in, day-out. I am actually starting to think that he may be a Howard Hughes type, storing his excrement in empty bottles and containers for fear of leaving the room - this would explain where he gets the inspiration for his endless puerile comments though.”
