TORQUAY United interim manager Alan Knill will be forced to make at least one change for tonight's visit of Wycombe Wanderers.

Centre back Aaron Downes limped out of Saturday's Port Vale defeat with a hamstring injury and is likely to be sidelined for a fortnight.

Angus MacDonald deputised for Downes on Saturday and may do so again tonight.

Torquay are aiming to stop a run of six defeats which has seen then dragged closer to the League Two relegation battle.

“Two more things that worry me:

    1) Wycombe were first to everything early on! That smacks of a team who are starting to give up with a kind of "the world is against us" attitude. Division Two isn't graced with a raft of great ball playing midfielders, but even ordinary players will look comfortable against us if we aren't harrying and snapping at them. If we can't do it at home what's it going to be like away?

    2) Ainsworth comes on and runs the show, OK a decent player throughout his career, but he should not be able to do what he did! I'm not an advocate of kicking people up in the air but whatever happened to the old "let him know you are there" routine? Again, if you let him get his foot on it and look up etc (sorry about the football cliches) he's going to deliver some telling crosses.

I think an away point is an absolute must on Saturday!”

“Knills tactics are not good enough.

He says he wants something "from the bench" but he won't put our more creative players on there (Morris, Stevens, Craig [unless he's forced to, due to illness]).

Then there's square pegs in round holes on the pitch.

Bad sub last night. Easton wasn't great, he needs to turn and spray the ball around, rather than always the way he's facing, but Oastler isn't a creative midfielder.

Then with 10 to go, he doesn't change anything. Why not throw Macklin and Thompson on there?

We're gonna struggle. Ling had an idea on how to play the squad he has. Knill has no such idea.

I'd have kept Taylor in charge and toughed it out with who we have.”

“No doubt about it. United are in freefall. With so many former League Clubs in the Conference now it isn't so easy to get back up again.

It will be ironic if United do find themselves in the Conference next season having just spent all that money on a new Grandstand!”

“Oh well, that's another game lost now to Wycombe to extend our run of defeats. Everything I was saying about Torquay is sadly coming true. Having seen them at the very beginning of the season what was blindingly apparent was a lack of anything much apart from Rene Howe in front of the defence. It is just as well we have a reasonable defence otherwise we would have been in the relegation zone a lot earlier. Kevin Nicholson is looking rather poor this season and we have absolutely no creativity in midfield. Torquay's tactics so far this season is to hoof endless long balls to Rene Howe and somehow hope that he is going to win the game single handed up front. With nothing much happening in the closed season in the transfer market it is quite apparent that nothing is going to change. Alan Knill is now the temporary manager with what I can only describe as an extremely unimpressive cv. I would like to wish Martin Ling a speedy recovery but I don't think he is up to the job either. I have already resigned myself to Conference football next year and the prospect of playing Buckle's Luton if they don't leapfrog us into the league!”
