A TOTAL of £2,300 has been raised by a South Devon law firm to help some of the UK's biggest charities.

Wollen Michelmore's private client team has raised more than £2,300 for WillAid.

Solicitors at the firm, which has offices in Paignton, Dartmouth, Torquay and Newton Abbot, agreed to draw up basic wills free of charge last November.

Instead of paying for the service, clients were asked to make a donation to the WillAid charities.

All money raised will be used to pay for vital work tackling poverty and deprivation across the world.

WillAid is a campaign run by nine of the UK's best known charities: ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children UK, Sightsavers International, SCIAF and Trocaire.

Charles Cooper, a solicitor with Wollen Michelmore, said: "These charities need all the help they can get and we are honoured to be playing our part in supporting them.

"We would also like to thank all our clients who gave so generously and enthusiastically."

It's the first time the firm has taken part in the scheme but it's hoped it will now be an annual event.

Nationally, WillAid 2011 has raised more than £1.15million.
