Lord Ashdown in town to support police candidate

ASPIRING crime commissioners visited Torquay for the final information event before the election.

The candidates came to the Riviera International Conference Centre in Torquay to discuss why they would be the best person to become the first police and crime commissioner for Devon and Cornwall.

The event was open to the public and free of charge and the aim was to increase awareness of the forthcoming election on November 15.

The candidates have been receiving support from some senior politicians.

Paddy Ashdown, the former Lib Dem leader, was in town to support the party hopeful Brian Blake.

Lord Ashdown stayed in town afterwards to sign copies of his new book 'A Brilliant Little Operation', about the Cockleshell Heroes.

The other candidates in the elections are: Tony Hogg (C), Nicky Williams (Lab), Graham Calderwood (Ind), Brian Greenslade (Ind), Ivan Jordan (Ind), Tam MacPherson (Ind), William Morris (Ind), John Smith (Ind), Robert Smith (Ukip).
